adobe reader error - faulty module:  comctl32.dll

    running windows 7 home premium, sp 1.

computer acer aspire -4830tg laptop, 8gb ram, i5-2430m intel processor.

 

not sure when happened, unable open adobe reader 10.  error indicates fault module comctl32.dll, specifically,

 

c:\windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft.windows.common-controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.7601.17514_n one_41e6975e2bd6f2b2\comctl32.dll

 

size 619kb

 

reader initialize, blank out , freeze attempts anything, including displaying menu bar.  have reinstalled reader several times , have removed first.  appears issue comctl32.dll file.  there many versions on system can't figure out how tell if corrupt. 

virus scan shows no risks.

unable rollback far enough make difference.

 

else have problem this?

is exact message receiving?

 

if @ comctl32.dll in same path on system, 1,642kb in size, date 2010-11-20 (file version 6.0.7601.17514).

 

on other hand wondering why not using file in c:\windows\system32 or c:\windows\syswow64 ?

 

something odd; try , check process monitor if can pinpoint how loading particular dll.
