Footnotes numbered consecutively across all files in a book
using cs6, i've created book 24 chapters. in each chapter, footnote numbering start with 1.
the author believes footnotes should numbered consecutively across files in book.
i don't see option indesign handle unless combine chapters single file. right?
any resources can suggest give definitive answer on how footnotes should numbered?
thanks,
david
i have done few jobs used footnotes. 1 of them undergrad thesis, did 1 document, of footnotes numbered consecutively. if had make uninformed bet, i'd guess chapters shouldn't restart @ 1, that's guess. consider there several sets of rules people can use (chicago manual of style, apa, mla, turabian), "correct" answer might conditional.

there option (for example) restart numbering of chapter 2 footnote number 8, if last footnote of chapter 1 7. require check each document of book before output sure restarts have correct number, in case added footnote chapter cause next chapter need new start number. can restart footnote numbers in type>document footnote options>numbering , formatting.
there may plug-in offers better footnote options, don't think indesign's native footnote feature allow footnote numbering span book chapters, i'm using cs5, maybe newer versions can better job.
i recommend check here see if has given more definitive answer before take word it.
