Open with another application

is possible open photo application, without pre-conversion tiff lightroom? love active d-lighting, saves me lot of shadow/highlight recovery, lightroom doesn't support it. edit of photos capture nx, use lightroom catalog them , edit others. can't find way of opening nef file directly in capturenx lightroom.

you can open photo application, not within lr (except photoshop). can open  nef on capture nx locating in os (mac finder / win explorer) , go <open with> there no way within lr.

and, when open nef in capture nx has been edited in lr edits not visible in capture nx. , vice versa true: if edit photo incapture nx these edits not visible in lr.

this because both programs write edits in proprietary format can read program writing it. apart lr stores edits in catalog can read lr.

 

it comes down following: either edit in lr or edit in capture nx, cross-over editing not possible - unless create tif after edit , open in other program. creating tif edits written image pixels can read photo editing software - if can open , read tifs is.

 

btw: active d-lighting works if shoot jpgs - far know. far better shoot raw , edit highlights in lr.
