hi
welcome joomla , these forums.

this indicative of corrupt installation of joomla.
the causes can extremely varied.

delete joomla files , directories in joomla_root/ directory
drop database tables have been created.
reinstall joomla.

following useful tips.
  1. download fresh copy of latestjoomla full stable package 2.5.7
    1. open archive locally on pc.
      • if on windows not use m$ own archive manager - download , install 7-zip.
      • do not use m$ explorer copy and paste or move options move extracted files around either.
  2. using ftp client
    1. upload files host joomla_root/ directory (where joomla files , directories located).
      • again if on windows not use m$ own software - download , install either winscp or filezilla.
      • ensure default transfer file type set binary.

alternatively if have created site locally consider uploading , database tables remote host instead.
