Thread: CPU use has shot up after using gconf-editor
i'm running 10.04 on dell. i'm using samsung syncmaster 172v monitor.
had appears common problem changing setting time screensaver takes kick in using system>preferences>screensaver doesn't change on systems. btw, side issue there 2 identical menu items name open different similar tools - kind of update hasn't removed previous tool imagine.
anyway, try , resolve ran
. under apps/gnome-screensaver noticedcode:gconf-editor
'idle_delay' set 10 (minutes). changed 100. on whim changed setting 'power_management_delay' higher value in case conflicting - didn't notice in seconds not minutes, should have tipped me off leave alone. cpu usage (according awn applet monitor it) @ 54% when system isn't being used, ie default desktop without running, , between 70-99% when running 1 or 2 programs. changing 'power_management_delay' setting doesn't seem restore cpu usage minimal levels seen before started messing here.
advice? of course post further information requested.
edited add: simple reboot seemed solve problem , set cpu usage normal, plus forgot had screenlets running may have accounted usage (even though re-loaded reboot).
still advice duplicate menu item tho.
