Thread: I AM new to Linux!!

hi ubuntu forums!

don't know start "absolute beginner talk" sounded right place be. have run linux on computer short amount of time , i'm starting feel of how desktop works total newbie.. hoping in post pointers how can exploring on it. kind of possibilities have?

first of want i'm pretty handy computers... well.. windows @ least. been running windows since w95 , i'm dual-booting windows 7. have gotten bored of windows , went looking else on computer. found linux. read ubuntu 1 of easier newbies myself (tried linux mint tho wasn't happy , feel).

far have figured "computing-skills" windows-user wont me out here in linux... isn't surprising since 2 totally different os's. enough of chitchat.

want know can on linux\ubuntu.
1. find things toy around with. instance cant use "terminal" yet. possibility? know "terminal" powerful tool in linux , people shouldn't "mess" around in if don't know do.
2. there anywhere can find step-by-step walkthrough how "make" program... or other sorts of programming. nothing fancy , executable file simple task.
3. , how widgets (if thats called)?
4. know how computer windows works. want know how computer linux works. other usage can out of ubuntu.

i'm newbie know. want take first steps towards becoming more advanced linux-user. info i'm using powerful computer , running ubuntu 11.04. know find answers of questions in forums here kind-of wanted try make myself own thread. hope ok.

ps: sorry big thread. thing want know is: why did change linux windows or apple-os. me answer be. want widen computing experience... , got bored of windows.
pss: have tried out , had fun compiz. making desktop amusement-park fun but... don't need

After Effect warning: A problem occurred when processing OpenGL commands

i have after effects cs6 in computer cs5.5 installed. 64bit windows 7 ultimate 20gb memory , 2 amd radeon hd 6900 series display adapters drivers updated hour ago (driver date 27.7.2012, version 8.982.0.0).   when trying use after ecffects, error message " after effect warning: problem occurred when processing opengl commands " when clicking composition window.   what done? not much, i'm afraid. need older graphics driver. other disable second card or play configuration. unfortunately not smart person decided cs6 no longer need manual opengl control user, there's no way suppress within program force-revert software-only modes in case of such issues...   mylenium More discussions in After Effects adobe
