Thread: Nvidia RAID1--seems to favor only one drive. Is this normal?

i have fresh installation of ubuntu 11.04 on 2 x 1tb drive array, mirrored. computer seems boot 1 drive (only 1 drive light stays on or flashes @ boot time). while transmission downloading file, same drive light flicker , other 1 flashes once in while.

is normal?

imagined raid system read/write @ same time. both drive lights flashed in harmony during installation of ubuntu. now, seems there have become "primary" , "secondary" drives. i've researched , people called "fakeraid". don't care if "fake" or not, or software/hardware raid. want know have backup. /etc/fstab looks 1 whole drive swap space, maybe.

hope raid experience can comment on this.

details:
board = gigabyte ga-m62m-s2p (about half year old)
drives = western digital, 2 weeks old
raid setup = created mirror setup nvidia raid bios utility (ubuntu saw 1 drive).
system = ubuntu 11.04
@ boot-time, nvidia part says raid "healthy".
example terminal session:
code:
me@me-m68m-s2p:~$ sudo dmraid -r [sudo] password me:  /dev/sdb: nvidia, "nvidia_bbeggidc", mirror, ok, 1953525166 sectors, data@ 0 /dev/sda: nvidia, "nvidia_bbeggidc", mirror, ok, 1953525166 sectors, data@ 0 me@me-m68m-s2p:~$ cat /etc/fstab # /etc/fstab: static file system information. # # use 'blkid -o value -s uuid' print universally unique identifier # device; may used uuid= more robust way name # devices works if disks added , removed. see fstab(5). # # <file system> <mount point>   <type>  <options>       <dump>  <pass> proc            /proc           proc    nodev,noexec,nosuid 0       0 /dev/mapper/nvidia_bbeggidc1 /               ext4    errors=remount-ro 0       1 /dev/mapper/nvidia_bbeggidc5 none            swap    sw              0       0 me@me-m68m-s2p:~$
