Thread: Ubuntu freezes shortly after login

hello,

i'm trying use ubuntu 11.04 on desktop computer after not having few years (i've been waiting new releases fix since started around 9.04, no such luck). however, freezes within minutes after logging in after fresh install (triggered trying pretty beyond moving mouse, opening menus, etc., although able apt-get install few packages through terminal no problems , run update manager) no explanation. able install ubuntu through alternate installer, however. normally, search internet (including forum) (i've solved several problems way), problem wass broad me find useful , specific.

actions before freezes include browsing web firefox, trying mount ntfs drives in computer, , particularly predicatably when opening non-terminal package manager program.

freezes occur reliably whether in full-featured mode or in safe mode.

initially, thought problem related usb microsoft wireless laser mouse 5000, replacing standard non-usb mouse fixed nothing. microsoft mouse freeze on separate occasions, leaving system operable keyboard (independent of whatever other problem is).

i'm able post windows xp.

After Effect warning: A problem occurred when processing OpenGL commands

i have after effects cs6 in computer cs5.5 installed. 64bit windows 7 ultimate 20gb memory , 2 amd radeon hd 6900 series display adapters drivers updated hour ago (driver date 27.7.2012, version 8.982.0.0).   when trying use after ecffects, error message " after effect warning: problem occurred when processing opengl commands " when clicking composition window.   what done? not much, i'm afraid. need older graphics driver. other disable second card or play configuration. unfortunately not smart person decided cs6 no longer need manual opengl control user, there's no way suppress within program force-revert software-only modes in case of such issues...   mylenium More discussions in After Effects adobe
