FrameMaker 11 very slow to create PDF
hello all
using framemaker 11 (tcs4) on windows vista sp2 (32-bit), dual-core 2.8ghz, 4gb ram.
i have book file 9 chapters, title, toc , index, adding 550 pages when printed. used take 10 minutes create pdf using framemaker 9. have upgraded fm11 takes on 90 minutes. chapters contain screenshots text, , printing whole book 1 file.
i have tried using save book (then choosing pdf), printing adobe pdf .ps , distilling, , save pdf, similar results.
then, because working across our network, copied files local drive , tried again. same results. have set printer not start printing until pages spooled.
watching activity in printer dialog, see pages spooled (about 1-2 sec/page) if chapter file small (up 40 pages). in case of large files (up 140 pages) each page takes on 10 seconds spool, , take 20 seconds. wondered if indicates insufficient ram?
i've read lots of useful information pdf creation fm, , tried of recommendations (including dov's recommendations printer/distiller settings years back), nothing makes difference.
any recommendations welcome. thanks.

that visible in task manager swapping (paging) activity.
and if swapping, windoze default use variable size swap file, can fragmented, particularly if hdd near full, or it's been time since defragged.
your "4gb ram", btw, more 3.5, due memory allocations in 32-bit windows kernels. "should" enough, because fm .ps , temp files exceed 2gb (and crash older fm versions if - haven't tested fm11 on win64).
