pathfinder operations on groups

hi there,

let's have 3 shapes stacked on picture below.

pog - 01 - shapes.png

i have them grouped in layers panel :

green rectangle

over [orange , blue] grouped together.

pog - 02 - layers.png

i grouped them way because want use green rectangle cut shape whole [orange , blue] group in order obtain following shape

pog - 03 - wanted result.png

so select green rectangle , [orange , blue] group in layers panel, use "minus front" pathfinder operation , instead :

pog - 04 - resulting operation.png

which not expected result.

trying more examples, seems operation cuts in bottom object shapes of objects above it.

what if want ot cut shape of topmost object whole group lying underneath ?

or more generally, if want cut shape of whole group sitting on top whole other group lying on bottom ?

i don't see why pathfinder operations don't take groupings account.

would nice if can here.

thanks

there's object>path>divide objects below option.
