Replacement site - old Google URLs - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

when upgraded site joomla 1.5 joomla 2.5 (latest version) redesigned every page. in fact joomla 2.5 site new. old joomla 1.5 site used standard urls (ie www.mysite.com/index.php?...) new joomla 2.5 site uses sef urls work well. however, site has not been moved, , domain name unchanged (ie www.mysite.com).

i have resubmitted new site map google, google still reports huge rise in crawl errors , continues list hundreds of old urls in search results, because somehow manage link (wrong) pages within new site.

can advise correct or best way resolve situation? should remove site google's search index , resubmit sitemap? should other search engines?

although of new site's urls have been correctly indexed, main problem seems old urls somehow link incorrect pages in new site. presumably google assumes these still valid. however, of old urls giving "500" errors remain. have tried using "remove urls" facility in google webmaster tools selectively remove problems there seems endless supply of old urls. site relatively large 2,300 pages.

comments appreciated.

you use .htaccess , put 301 redirects in old hyperlinks.

if still have backup of old site, install locally (using xampp), install xmap
and use extension find old urls.

put relative links in spreadsheet + in column new absolute full links
and "redirect 301" create redirects put in .htaccess like:

code: select all

redirect 301 /old-relative-url http://new-absolute-url
