Thread: Do you use 3 Mobile Broadband, OpenDNS and ddclient?

if do, think can give me foolproof, jargon-free or jargon-lite, step-by-step moves configuring setup yours?

have used opendns nameservers since late 2008, no-brainer set of course. want block adult sites of obvious type, , have not found configuring ddclient keep dynamic dns updated easy. quite in dark it, , have not got far using opendns forum. both people giving me advice not seem realise how jargon-laden advice has been , don't seem able them break advice down further non-it brain.

i've looked other means of blocking sites through ubuntu 'nanny' example in repos not seem practical seems want sites entered 1 one, madness. foxfilter extension in firefox did not block 2 of first 3 adult sites tested , saw no preferences box click got rid of immediately.

thought near solving this morning, entering of correct settings ddclient, not sure if ppp0 correct thing enter mobile broadband, opposed ot wlan0 , eth0. if ppp0 wrong, what's correct?

i'd pleased have solved here or @ least find software in .deb form, no compliling, block pornographic sites least , simplest layman-friendly configuration.

i carried on thrashing @ this, reading on , trying things twelve hours on 3 days. i've solved it. file etc/ddclient.conf needs ot have content (where xxx@xxx email address signed opendns with, xxx password chose, , last line name gave network:

...ddclient, in repositories, seems pretty useless during gui setup, , filled in boxes ot go through motions , add above file manually. service work mobile broadband , linux, though there slight lag dynamic ips updated doesn't in practice spoil functions.
