Thread: Noobie Tryin to Keymap busted key

hi all, im pretty new linux, running ubuntu 11 on msi wind netbook

period key on keyboard broke sometime ago , hence rather difficult end sentence

how can map menu key (the 1 brings right click features , located next right alt key) period key

appreciated,

i'm not savy on terminal commands

did try 1 program called xmod or couldn't detect new key wanted map too

this relatively easy xmodmap(1) , xev(1).

on netbook, menu key right of right-alt, , below period. xev shows keycode of 135 mapped keysym "menu".

put following text in file:
code:
keycode 135 = period greater period greater
now run command
code:
xmodmap filename-with-keycode-from-above
did work you?
if not, perhaps menu key has different keycode; use xev(1) find correct one.

hope.to.see.periods.from.you!
