hi everybody, not sure if in right place, graphics cards under 'hardware' aren't they?

anyway, after problems graphics driver aforementioned card, manual install solved it. problem appears blacklisted, though it's not on list here:

anyway, runs "glxgears" fine, , running "./compiz-check" works fine.

however, desktop effects returns "scanning available drivers", "desktop effects not enabled."

note i'm not after desktop effects, although cool, kind of hoping has similar problem , offer one-size fits-all solution (i want try , learn program 3d things, won't run @ mo), rather constant mucking about/crashing/profanity/reinstalling ubuntu web offers.

can please? have being using ubuntu month, xp convert, not afraid of crashing computer, although rather not, don't have many files , have live cd.

edit: oh, btw, dodged blacklist, nothing happened. realised should have put in post.

p.s don't suppose knows sort of skills assistant/apprentice ubuntu developer needs (?), i'm interested in computers , linux, , i'm sort of person likes giving back. particularly it's free. can use basic c++ if helps, , smattering of other programming languages too. or alternatively, if has link or site or helpful person can follow?

took old geforce 5200tv
system->administration->hardware drivers
