Thread: password is too short error

i have been trying change password on install simple 2 character alpha.

tried using "users , groups" menu , got error "password short" tells me need more 5 characters.
after searching bit found passwd <username> command used in recovery mode. got similar massage there too.

upon doing fresh install able set simple password want, after changing more secure password have not yet found way want be. don't want burn down yet install.

yes, know system trying protect me myself off point.

default has minimum of 4 characters.

can edited with

gksudo gedit /etc/pam.d/common-password

if unfamiliar editing these types of files not recommend , contravenes built in security model

example modify pam_unix.so line with

password [success=1 default=ignore] pam_unix.so nullok obscure min=2 max=8 sha512

min=2 2 character password etc , nullok means blank passwords accepted again security risk
