Thread: Restoring your previous GRUB2 boot screen after reinstalling Windows in a simple way!


hi guys,

have installed ubuntu 11.04 beside windows 7 have both of them on demand. after weeks needed reinstall windows 7, after grub boot screen wiped out windows (obvious result after installing greedy os windows!). have searched through forums , net find solution bringing grub no avail, every provided solution has failed me , ended generating error somewhere! *after gained knowledge solutions find simple way work around problem , think should share other people have problem me , here steps:

1) download "super grub2 disk" (1.44mb) form link : http://www.supergrubdisk.org/categor...2diskdownload/
(of course there software "rescatux" makes solving problem easier 300mb in size makes hard download many users in areas low bandwidth connection)

2) burn downloaded iso image cd or dvd using software nero in windows or k3b in linux.

3) start computer using cd or dvd have created.

4) appeared menu select first choice named "detect os".

5) should see operating systems used have before new windows installation wiping them out.

6) select target linux distribution ubuntu list.

7) after loading ubuntu (or other linux distribution), mount main drive system uses boot partition. in ubuntu click on @ left pane in file manager.

8 ) open terminal window , type: $ sudo update-grub2
(or "$ sudo update-grub" distributions use grub instead of grub2)

9) restart computer , it's done!

great solution. if want use windows boot loader use easybcd, , go grub there. it's little hard though, , i've never been able figure out.

prefer grub
