Thread: Total failure of wired networking
hi
got big problems here! appreciate help.
i've been unable wifi working on fresh ubuntu 11.04 install resorted using wired connection domestic router. worked fine until yesterday when computer awoke hibernation. wired connection doesn't work. i've followed instructions literally dozens of forum posts , i'm hitting brick wall every time.
major problems i'm experiencing are:
1. when make changes /etc/network/interfaces , sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart get:
rtnetlink answers: no such process
restart command never returns , have ctrl+c.
2. when sudo dhclient eth0 command never returns , have ctrl+c. can sudo dhclient -nw eth0 , command returns of course no net connection.
3. need config dynamic ip address. static ip not option
4. i've ended network-manager , network-manager-gnome uninstalled , when try reinstall them (from backup package files) dependency errors.
can suggest why points #1 , #2 may happening? think may indicate core problem.
@ brilliant. i'm desperate!! ideally solve problem through manually editing config files understand why problem occurred , how solve it.
thank in advance.
i start @ start! may see file? in terminal, please run , post:1. when make changes /etc/network/interfaces , sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart get:
rtnetlink answers: no such processplease disguise passwords. thanks.code:cat /etc/network/interfaces
