Thread: linux + laptops + wireless = instant fail
i can't wireless work on acer aspire 5002 laptop w/ wireless.
here's happens:
1 flavor of debian - doesn't work @ all...not detected whatsoever... not true debian, though
xubuntu - usb stick - loads fine... plugged in/wired... works - have internet
know packages needed - bcm4318 chipset - uses 'firmware-43-installer' , after installed, i'm go...
not sure if subsequent step needed got point in xubuntu shows nothing, no network manager, no internet/ethernet utility of kind... odd , pathetic...sorry! it's true!
so, install wicd. else there? network manager???
wicd displays available connections... far, it's ok. don't know why mine 70% though... isn't accurate @ all... i'm right beside router , connection.
anyway, try configure wireless connection , fails... error message displays incorrect password... yeah, right!
don't think so! check router settings... making sure haven't lost mind... it's fine.
sorry, long story made short states... epic failure wireless , linux once again!
not sure blame broadcom wifi card means problems. but, since available networks detected, i'm not sure what's going on.
laptop obtained/acquired linux install on if can.
if knows or can recognize going on, please provide info! have had more success thinkpad it's not 64-bit , weaker laptop defective hardware (issues). might not have choice, though, if can't figure out what's going on acer.
ideas? sorry tone... thought laptop not problem installing linux on it. did use live media still, should not issue. have used wireless on other laptops configured via live media before.
help?![]()
