Thread: Maverick freezes more often and for longer

hi,

i'm starting have more problems have time try fixing... bit worried now.

i'm running 10.10 on dell e4310 laptop. installed deb. since installed there's been occasional short freezes. applications stop responding few seconds. window become shaded in grey. happens lot gedit when trying save or open file. firefox windows become greyed more often, firefox windows open in background. usually, after few secs things kick in motion , there's series of keyboard strokes , mouse clicks in rapid succession.

have jvm running , have more things need running in background. until recently, sort of experience, however, had been distinctive of windows xp experience me... had never experienced noticeable lags on machine 10.04.

anyway, had first major freeze machine stopping respond , had hard reboot after waiting few minutes.

know , there newbie me can try doing?

can use disk utility , check hard drive bad sectors?
