i getting following error whenever start synaptic package manager. dialogue box reads:

error occurred, following details provided.

e: encountered section no package: header
e: problem mergelist /var/lib/apt/lists/gb.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_natty_main_bina ry-i386_packages
e: package lists or status file not parsed or opened.
e: _cache->open() failed, please report.

, click 'close' (the option available) , synaptic closes.

hi,this commands should going

code:

sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/* -vf

please use command written, , not use other files or wipe out system. remove damaged list , when run second command replace new list.

code:

sudo apt-get update
