Thread: Using Scalpel and storing results to network drive

dear all,

hoping right forum ...

have decided switch ubuntu (11.04) , doing in hours, missed back-up thunderbird folders ...

after searching , giving myself linux crash-course, have decided on using scalpel possibly recover emails - doesn't work me. getting error message during second pass:

image file pass 2/2.
/dev/sda1: 0.1% | | 40.0 mb --:--etaerror opening file: /media/recovery/hope/-0-0/00000345 -- directory
scalpel unable write output files , abort.
error indicates disk space exhausted.

mount (intending) write has 2 tb, whilst scanned drive 80 gb, there should enough space. doing:

downloand , install scalpel (1.60) , smbfs

$ sudo mount -t cifs -o username=xyz //192.168.1.1/harddisk/ubuntu_recovery /media/recovery

whereby drive on ip address (actually, it's dreambox enigma 2) has 2 tb free. remote folder (recovery) has edited scalpel.conf (to search thunderbird email files without extension).

evoke programme:

$ sudo scalpel -b -c /media/recovery/scalpel.conf /dev/sda1 -o /media/\recovery/hope

new folder hope created, contains audit.txt file, nothing else. after first scalpel pass, large number if identified files shown (> 700,000), there should @ least couple of files, 1 might think.

sure silly don't see, 1 of out there knows trick!!!!

best wishes
tom
