Ghost categories - possible bug?? - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support
i first noticed in google webmaster tools, duplicate article in category no longer exists. when thought how i'd set site realised had happened , i've been able recreate on fresh joomla install.
to recreate problem:
set category called 'test' , sub-category, 'subtest'. place article in subtest called 'article1', read more link enabled, , create category blog menu called 'hello' linked top level category 'test'.
if go full article ,with sef url's on, you'd have (i've added category/article id number in):
now, go 'subtest' category in admin , change title/alias 'newsubtest' - you'd expect, article changes in category, rather 'subtest' , if follow menu through in frontend article, url be:
the problem is, can manually change url to:
and article still display, in sub-category no longer exists...
i've tried clearing browser cache , joomla cache , it's still there - instance on our website has been there many months - far google concerned, it's duplicate content
in reality, might not massive problem, because if we're going change category title on live site, you'd need re-direct anyway - problem when building site locally , making changes category titles before uploading web server or perhaps adding new categories/articles on live site , changing category before publishing.
maybe not earth shattering issue in grand scheme of things, but, unless there's i've missed, big problem under circumstances.

further above oddness, joomla seems quite happy serve article category doesn't exist. big/important joomla site:
the proper link:
http://www.guggenheim.org/new-york/press-room/news/5072-view-photos-from-art-after-dark
and same article changed categories:
http://www.guggenheim.org/new-york/made-up/made-up/5072-view-photos-from-art-after-dark
it's same article, there modules missing , others added...
am missing obvious here - me, second link should 404 error, isn't.
any thoughts on either of above??
