Issues That Need Work

i've been using bc little on year , feel i've found overall system.  being said there few problems i'd see addressed devs in near future.

 

one problem encounter on regular basis inconsistencies between various tags , ability placed within layouts.  example - in web app layouts able add {tag_classification} tag detail view not list view.  happens time 1 tag or across bc modules , components.

 

in addition not being able place tags in layouts i've found many tags inconsistent.  example - {module_webapps} tag allows filter while {module_webappsresults} doesn't allow functionality.  backwards.  can't add filter our results default tag?

 

now there ways around this, such creating custom fields or using javascript (another issue), point there shouldn't have workarounds.  tags should work consistently in given environments.

 

the third problem have semi-advanced has done javascript or css hacks.  i'm glad have communities bcgurus , kiyuco have gone ahead , done lot of work in these respects again shouldn't have to.  use javascript , css hacks on every bc site launch , while 'works' it's not premiere platform if have hack in order make work.

 

the major problem css , javascript hacks manipulated malicous hackers.  makes bc sites advanced functionality easy manipulate.

 

another issue have ran more implementation of crm forms , form code in general.  need able pick , choose fields crm forms insert web forms la carte. example - have crm layout need keep consistent in backend form front doesn't need every 1 of fields each crm form.  it's simple contact form, need 2 or 3 crm fields.  when user submits form crm fields show unfilled fields  on confirmation page , again in email sent out.  nightmare when comes end user.  there fields missed?  why data showing up?  kind of questions arise when user submits form this.

 

i feel bc system tailored non-devs , think that's great.  bc sites easy going, of technically inclined, need depth , customization afforded other premiere cms/hosting platforms , hope issue being worked on.  it'd amazing if had access scripts , code makes bc work realize that's not going happen.

 

i have other complaints these seem issues deal most.  lot of times deal breakers our clients , have move different platform unfortunately.  hope discussion garner support can these issues resolved.  can cause major headaches in otherwise simple system.

not being able edit all of html sites serve through templates pet peeve of mine. , there being no logic in bc's templating system @ all, forces use js stopgap until liquid , running , give access frontend code our sites.

 

that field types in web apps render incomplete html if don't have data infuriating. if don't add href link field, shouldn't blank link in return... why system not run basic check see if data associated field exists?  , let's not mention bug rounding values. in e-commerce site. have use js validate content.

 

the inline editor destroys valid code (even system generates invalid code, re web apps)

 

the captcha's joke. if you're going have captcha, @ least have 1 works. reason recaptcha's gotten unintelligible because that's takes stay just 1 step ahead of hackers doing defeat them. there best practices when comes captchas , business catalyst's follows none of them. yes, they're installing akismet. akismet can bypassed well. akismet and captcha would @ least provide proactive , reactive solution spam issue.

 

there's apparently no method exporting site (and mean entire site, including data, not gets put folders ftp.) should able export somehow single action, delete existing site, take metadata, import new blank site single action and same site back.

 

if understand former thread correctly, bc doesn't hash user passwords. far know, anyone's site 1 database dump , pastebinning away being open anyone. if inaccurate, or being worked on, apologize, if it's accurate should fixed immediately. difficult so, it's going more of pain adobe when have deal egg on face way envato did. envato had refund downtime spent having lock everyone's accounts out, add proper security, , force change passwords, practically beg people not leave.

 

it incredibly frustrating, particularly when consider how awesome platform if worked properly.
