Keeping Paragraph Styles Separate

hi, i'm trying format sub-headings included in table of

contents separately bullets precede them in document.

that is, want sub-headings have different paragraph style

the bullets, bullets aren't included in toc. can't use hard

return, belong on same line in document, separate in

the toc.

will indesign let me? i've tried inserting discretionary line breaks,

ending nested styles, keep option - trying keep bullet

previous paragraph, single-line composer, incopy assignments, etc. ,

nothing works. whatever paragraph style make subheading becomes

same + bullet, or vice versa.this can't

unusual/impossible, separating paragraph styles on same line it?

shouldn't be.
