Thread: 11.04 software update after install causes freezeup

i have aproblem installing natty onto 250 gig box windows vista resident. did install requesting installed updates on fly. initial install went ok , gnome unity started ok minor housekeeping problems. next day got update screen showing around 140 patches. did upgrades, , rebooted. got unity screen icons left side , nothing else except cursor not cause action. had hard kill , reboot- same thing.
decided wipe whole disk , clean install- no more vista. ok until followed direction , upgraded- rebooted , watched frozen screen again. once again took hard kill.

re-installed , got , running did not "security upgrade." far ok. i'm sure upgrade put me down in flames.

there condition in install package or upgrade package causes mayhem little experience precludes finding it. have no intention of upgrading unless can eliminate problem.

i'm running on hp pavilion slimware box amd athlon x2 processor (about 4 years old) , single 500 gig non-partitioned hard drive.

got thought?

i have unity running current updates , have no problem. can start disk utilities , check hd errors.
