Thread: Minor wine with panel problem
hey there people. i'm problem wine isn't game running per say.
thing when start full screen game in different resolution, game opens ok, start running , change screen resolution, problem when changes panels won't go away, mean up/down menu bar panel whatever gnome.
have rechange resolution inside game them go away, imagine annoying. , gets bit more troublesome smaller resolutions, seems screen gets out scaled , buttons of game won't work, had problem while playing splinter cell 1 , other older games.
i'm playing sims 3, after quiting game resolution gets normal supposed, still panels keep showing. way, game window has "always on top" tag.
basically happening window manager using graphics card acceleration... because menu bars being rendered way can overlay opengl game.
fix temporarily disable gpu acceleration normal desktop:
- kwin (kde): disable desktop effects fullscreen applications - enable (default)
- compiz config settings manager (gnome): undirect full screen applications setting - enable (not default)
(compiz setting buried in general settings option think - i'm using newer version of compiz be).
using metacity not use graphics card render normal desktop windows/panels...
the wine developers refuse put in fudges correct behaviour (basically since difficult tell when want resolution 'return normal' - without breaking other things!)
there plenty of advanced guides out there can bing -on... involve using xrandr after main commandline shortcut game running in wine. command used reset display resolution default/ previous setting.
easier can run games in virtual desktop (this can set in winecfg gui - in programs/wine menu). set size of desktop less full desktop resolution. perhaps not pretty running fullscreen - main display resolution left unaffected!
if that's geeky gobidly-gook i'll put in simpler language , go through steps!
