Thread: PANIC: early exception 08 rip 246:10 after upgrading from 2 to 4GB RAM
hi,
upgraded system 2gb 4gb of ram , can't boot ubuntu
system is:
motherboard: intel dq35mp latest bios
cpu: intel(r) core(tm)2 duo cpu e8200 @ 2.66ghz
memory now: 2 x 2gb kingston 800mhz kvr800d2n5k2/4g
memory before: 2 x 1gb kingston 800mhz
system: ubuntu linux 10.04 lts 64bit installed alternative cd
hdd: full disk encryption (that's why installed alternative cd)
uname: linux hercules-desktop 2.6.32-32-generic #62-ubuntu smp wed apr 20 21:52:38 utc 2011 x86_64 gnu/linux
* memory recognized bios properly.
* can enter grub menu , choose normal / rescue kernel
* when try boot system dark screen less minute , after small message:
panic: exception 08 rip 246:10 ffffffff81037abc cr2 0
, that's it.
* removing 1 dice (leaving 2gb) removes problem, that's not solution.
* trying boot from: ubuntu 10.04 alternative cd 64bit , failed without error message.
* trying boot from: ubuntu 11.04 desktop cd 64bit , failed without error message.
ideas? hints? next?
have tried running memtest86+ grub menu? leave running several hours, overnight if possible, see if errors noted bottom right of screen.
sounds if have either 1 faulty memory chip, or there incompatibility between 2 chips, can happen when both run fine on own.
