Thread: RAID-6 cannot start degraded array

hello all,

ubuntu server 11.04 i386.

i've used linux on , off years in small doses, i'm @ newbie level.

running openfiler nas, decided give ubuntu+webmin try. , 'til i've been happy progress.

have set raid-6 array using 5 x 1tb sata drives.
i've ensured array in "clean" state, , want failure testing.
problem occurs when remove 1 of drives in array. shutdown, remove drive, boot up. array wont start @ all, , comes error during boot:

the disk drive /mnt/raidvol1 not ready yet or not present
continue wait; or press s skip mounting or m manual recovery
if wait, nothing happens.
raid array should start in degraded mode, fails mount @ all.
when press "m" go manual recovery , type "mount -a" response:

mount: special device /dev/raidvg1/raidlv1 not exist
i have set boot_degraded=true in /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/mdadm without success.

if reconnect disconnected drive, array works fine, , in clean state.

appreciated!

nev

what have in /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf file?
code:
cat /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf
and fstab like?
code:
cat /etc/fstab
