Variable Handling, use Session?

currently menu link 'user admin' takes list of users subscribed topics.

 

the clients wants multiple menu links, e.g. 'user admin - topic', when go user admin dealing users subscribed specific topic.

 

so create these links url variable 'topicid' , modify query adds filter topicid.

 

now have pagination, edit/delete, add new user, search user controls work with.

 

i've started add hidden inputs forms, , variables paginations hold topicid go 1 page - have fuseactions contend with, i'm having doubts whether best way it... doesn't seem elegant.

 

so i'm pondering suitability of session scope, biggest concern session scope times out. if user sitting on page 20 minutes may error if proceed next, i'll have add in error handling.

 

am missing trick? seems such basic level thing do, i've been working on legacy app 4 years (it's rusting brain)- it's other people's input.

be careful session variables.  tabbed browsers, etc, possible user inadvertently change session variables.
