ALT key problems

hi there

 

i trying use cloning tool, however, alt key not seem work.

 

everytime, use alt , click comes following message: "the area clone has not been defined. use option click define area."

 

basically, when press alt key on keyboard resizes screen , gets rid off tools bar , menu in photoshop cs4. anyone?

if try trashing prefs keeping command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting photoshop , resetting photoshop’s default settings.

 

what describe sounds done f-key (change screen mode).
