Thread: GPU for 30" Dell Monitor

my friend *finally* starting use ubuntu. i'm helping him build pc ubuntu 64 windows in virtual machine -- not dual boot. used software development , not used games. he'll watching h.264 video, on dell , 1080p tv.

monitor:
dell ultrasharp u3011 30-inch widescreen flat panel monitor
ships 1-2 days
manufacturer part# 9xdg8
dell part# 224-9949
max resolution: 2560 x 1600 / 60 hz
viewable size: 30"

gigabyte mb under consideration has on board video maximum resolution of 1920x1200, won't cut it.

i'm looking gpu work straight away without hassles. i'd first experience ubuntu one!

cpu amd phenom ii x4 965 (or similar - 955, 970, etc) , motherboard gigabyte or asus.

case smallish - atx mini tower

found video card -- seems work great ubuntu:
sapphire 100293l radeon hd 5570 1gb 128-bit ddr3 pci express 2.1 x16 hdcp ready low profile
http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82e16814102874

understand ati solid choice ubuntu. should @ sandy bridge? think it's bit unless there's particular mb/cpu/gpu combo work flawlessly straight away.

suggestions gpu? goal choose drive monitor not overkill.

thanks!

i have silent gt210, can real cheap now. works fine hd video vdpau , has max resolution of 2560x1600 should ok.

ati ok, have had nothing trouble proprietary drivers. if go them, stick open source driver.
