Thread: Installed manually and now need help tuning so it can run

hello forums!

see myself interesting problem , help. chose install lucid lynx in spare partition because have soft spot ubuntu, being first distro ever used. thing pendrive died , it's netbook had try things differently.

first, mounted .iso folder. mounted squashfs file , copied of contents spare partition. copied host's /etc/mtab /etc , created fstab based on host's (i know people have been using uuids, it's blkid can wait). there is:

then chrooted , installed grub root partition. did couple more things:

-i added dummy user boni. don't know groups first user should belong to, added me users , sudo. ones should be?
-i added ubuntu's gpg key trusted keys , installed vim in order check if apt-get working. works.

rebooted. ubuntu booting, there couple of things done. first, following errors when gdm appears:
1. not update iceauthority file /var/lib/gdm/.iceauthority
2. there problem configuration server. (/usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconf-sanity-check2 exited status 256)
3. loooong delay login screen appears. there's hostname (cardamom), can't pick user login.
4. @ same time, there's notice on top right corner of screen:
install problem!
configuration defaults gnome power manager have not been installed correctly.
please contact computer administrator.

switched tty1 try , kill gdm , try reinstall it. problem can't use sudo. error stating must suid root. 1 easy circumvent. have chroot again , enable root logins.

have battery of problems i'd know can fix them or better reference install ubuntu manually. irc channel couldn't me. i'm using slackware 13.37 suggestions install additional software should take in consideration.
