Thread: No Grub after installation

hello,

have been working on small embedded computer side project @ university , have been having nothing trouble since started work. system had debian 3 on , trying install xubuntu onto system others less familiar linux. replaced hard drive before starting still have original installation , of hardware good. tried install xubuntu onto system using live cd, after refused start fell alternate install cd worked. installation success, when tried start computer, passed bios , blinking cursor, xubuntu splash screen, nothing , system halt.

weird part...

tried reinstall using alternate install cd again, , instead of using entire drive re sized partitions , installed second instance of xubuntu, time when tried boot computer grub popped after bios screen , both instances of xubuntu there. aside having 2 installations, both used small partition (only ~500 mb). right works rather working right way if possible. if has idea happening , how fix appreciated. thank you.

tried again , got same results repeatable error.

computer specs:
intel pentium 5-m
512 mb ram
(additional information system available if need it)

again reading through , thoughts may have.

welcome forums.

not familiar xubuntu. default installer sees other installs , shrinks them fit new install in. if want reinstall on top of existing install have use manual install , choose / (root) , finds swap if exists.

how large hard drive? 512mb should set swap @ 1gb.

can boot cd or usb run livecd? alternate installer not livecd. if run boot info script or should able run xubuntu install:

first install may have needed grub2's boot loader reinstalled mbr, or had parameter added grub command line adjust special hardware.

how set nomodeset , other kernel boot options in grub2
