Thread: ubuntu 10.04 won't boot after updates

hello people not totally new linux, pretty beginner little bash , c knowledge.


can't boot current kernel (2.6.32-32-generic) or previous 2 versions in normal or failsafe mode since updated through update manager couple days ago.

when try boot stuck @ purple ubuntu screen 5 orange dots,
& in recovery mode can't login using prompt (something i/o error?) , running in failsafe gets me stuck @ black screen.
disk checking crashes, , without live cd, gives error saying unknown username.

laptop in question dual boots windows running fine, i've ruled out hardware malfunction.

i'm running 'try ubuntu without installing' session using live cd, can see haven't changed permissions on lot of files making them uncopyable, fix preferable here complete re-install.


(while i'm here, i've never managed laptop out of suspend -screen goes black. there sort of package or driver fix hp laptops? installed exact same ubuntu on sony laptop , worked fine.)


quick google brings me forum thread fixes linux problems. far can tell
non-booting pretty common 1 haven't found solutions far.

when start in recovery mode, menu? if menu, have tried dpkg selection, sounds update didn't complete.

error message in recovery mode when try log in?

After Effect warning: A problem occurred when processing OpenGL commands

i have after effects cs6 in computer cs5.5 installed. 64bit windows 7 ultimate 20gb memory , 2 amd radeon hd 6900 series display adapters drivers updated hour ago (driver date 27.7.2012, version 8.982.0.0).   when trying use after ecffects, error message " after effect warning: problem occurred when processing opengl commands " when clicking composition window.   what done? not much, i'm afraid. need older graphics driver. other disable second card or play configuration. unfortunately not smart person decided cs6 no longer need manual opengl control user, there's no way suppress within program force-revert software-only modes in case of such issues...   mylenium More discussions in After Effects adobe
