Thread: Will I lose my raid array if I reinstall Ubuntu?
so i've been having issues ubuntu install ever since put in gnome 3 ppa use gnome shell... point i'm putting ubuntu/xfce on critical boxes , fedora 15/gnome shell on laptops , stuff want use gnome shell on, since ubuntu not there yet supporting (come on, 11.10 supporting gnome 3 out of box...) i'm doing since ppa purge, while removed gnome 3/shell, i'm still getting little weirdness... i'd rather fresh install , stop tinkering now.
anyway, here's setup:
250gb sata - os/ubuntu
1tb sata - raid 1 via mdadm
1tb sata - raid 1 via mdadm
if format , reinstall ubuntu on 250gb drive, lose array or able select array mount home directory when advanced partitioning?
i've run similar problem.
idea of gnome 3 (shell) interface, isn't yet seamless ui integration ubuntu i've ever used, least.
looking reinstall os onto machine (probably mint 11) until shell ready, don't want jeopardize data in mdadm-configured raid5 array. rather not have rebuild array, since setup made rather difficult last time around, not mention time take transfer ~1tb of data off , on. there's way maintain integrity of array while reinstalling os (which on different hdd).
while not @ expert on how mdadm facilitates software raid configuration, make sense (since software raid) reinstalling os upon other software based cause mdadm software mechanisms maintain integrity of array lost well. unless information in mdadm.conf (or similar object) saved on array , can used grub or os installation client correctly identify array. however, it's quite probable i'm missing else entirely.
if knows type of issue, appreciate information or advice on how proceed.
