Problem with shape tool

for reason after drawing shapes shape tool, whether 1 line or custom shape, can't edit after drawing it. can't edit @ , doesn't appear on layer. can delete every single layer , shape still there.

 

they not paths, double check did under paths empty.

 

it doesn't matter else i've done, or whether new blank page can't shape once i've drawn it.

 

i can't select when click show transform controls, can't select marquee tool , delete (because isn't on layer) , can't place on cover it.

 

have keep saving before drawing shape , close , reopen file if shape doesn't go quite wanted first time. if want on shape in way can't it.

 

what causing , how can stop happening?

i'm not understanding situation. start, "every single layer" cannot deleted; there must @ least 1 layer in ps document.

paths panel can empty despite there being paths in document. path in vector mask (a shape layer fill layer vector mask) not listed unless relevant layer targeted. paths not in vector masks listed @ times.

 

when path visible, should selectable path selection tool , direct selection tool.

 

if still have problem post screenshot visible path in document window , layers , paths panels open.
