Thread: is there any way to chmod a folder, no longer have access to owner user account?

my ubuntu broke couple days ago , i've rendered unfixable; updating through live cd, dpkg , failsafex don't work, i've decided i'll call day , start over.

problem have folders have permissions owner-only, cannot copy them anywhere else or read them. there way around linux's annoyingly secure permissions @ all? (or mount drive under windows?)

first can't mount them under windows doesn't know how read ext4 fs. have tried use sudo copy file, or even:

sudo chown name:name file or directory name. have replace name:name user name..
