Thread: isight problem
hello everybody!
i'm running ubuntu 11.04 on macbook 4.1, , i'm trying load isight firmware. followed instructions here, , there isight.fw in /lib/firmware/ folder. problem still cheese cannot find camera.
also, gstreamer says there no /dev/video0 device.
, putting lsusb in terminal, :
well, it's quite stupid question, i'm pretty new ubuntu, , after searching 2 days on internet solution, got more confused...code:bus 002 device 002: id 05ac:8300 apple, inc. built-in isight (no firmware loaded)

don't know if help, solved similar problem now. found out nvidia driver culprit, @ least on macbook pro 5,1 running ubuntu 10.04.
after activating driver, noticed /dev/video0 disappeared. went , deactivated nvidia driver. not got /dev/video0 back, isight came life well.
how did on 10.04 (may different 11.04, don't know):
- go system > administration > hardware drivers
- select nvidia driver may have installed , choose "remove"
- shut down computer. turn on.
- see if worked: go terminal, type gstreamer-properties, hit enter, dialog opens, go video tab, see if isight listed under "devices", hit "test" button and... cam should work now.
don't use lot of fancy graphical things @ least until didn't feel i'm missing not having nvidia driver active. i'd rather have webcam working.
