Thread: Question about bays and the number of devices that can be added
other o/s because plan turn machine xen server.
unfortunately don't have exper building computers/ hardware. i'm wondering whether number of devices (like hard drives , optical drives, etc) function of mobo can support; or, if bays there , cable has enough plugs can go it.
i'm trying have 3 disks , 1 optical drive. machine happens have been media center version desktop has 9 in 1 card reader thing in don't think uses flat cable data transfer anyhow. looks connected differently.
appreciated. thank you.
your motherboard , chipset on limiting factor on how many storage devices can installed on it, subject of course physical place sit them (in case, hopefully).
if motherboard designed after 2002, has sata interface, , number of sata connectors. these 3/4 of inch long, , "l" shaped. number of sata connectors limit on how many sata devices can connect -- once device per connector.
until recent times motherboards had ide controller , interface -- single connector. 40-pin "ribbon" cable connector, notch in middle of 1 side. ide interface can support 2 devices, commonly referred "master" , "slave". if have ide connector, can have 2 ide devices on ide ribbon cable (which needs 2 connectors installed on it, of course).
hope helps.
