Thread: Setting up Hotspot Shield through Network Manager?


solved. editing else wanting set hotspot shield through ubuntu network manager.

wanted set vpn netbook when connect public hotspots.

got hotspot shield work through terminal using this youtube video. works alright, wanted set through network manager instead.


how set hotspot shield through network manager:

1. download "network management framework (vpnc plugin)" package in synaptic
2. go http://hotspotshield.com/clientless/...et_started.php hotspot shield settings.
3. configure new vpn in network manager
4. choose "cisco compatible vpn (vpnc)" dropdown list.
5. how fill out window pops up:

server = gateway
account = user name under "optional"
password = user password
group name = group name
secret = group password

leave else default.

6. click save , can connect hotspot shield through network manager!

if going doing surfing internet , checking email, builtin firewall should enough without having go effort of setting third party programs. open terminal , type:

code:
sudo ufw enable
you can run port scan form computer on network, you'll see there no open ports.

if use web mail, check see if there https connection available.
