LR 4.1 import problem

i have been using lr since v1 , having serious issue trying import using lr4.1 (no problems in v3.x).

 

whenever try import, lr 4.1 takes 30+ seconds bring import screen, hitting button on screen results in delay, anywhere 30 seconds upwards of 4 minutes (for each click of mouse).  occurs when source not selected (and no sd or cf cards in reader).  not uncommon need 30+ minutes set import start.  not cpu issue, of time task manager shows cpu idle

 

once import starts, runs haphazardly, 2-3 photos imported between minutes long pauses.  used take few minutes import, runs overnight.  using usb 3.0 readers (both kingston , sandisc brands) , cf , sdhc cards (sandisc, transcend , pny brands).  again, not cpu issue, cpu sits idle when lr takes pause.

 

using windows explorer copy files hard drive runs quickly, without issue.

 

i have tried various performance suggestions can find in (and other) forums (ie., optimize catalog; delete caches; delete lrdata , allow rebuild; etc.  nothing helps.

 

note not have other performance issues, lr4.1 in develop module quick , responsive (using 2010 or 2012 process).  import function has problem.

 

the system i5-3570k 16gb of ram running win7x64.  boot drive samsung ssd , catalog & temp files reside on 1gb seagate 700mb of free space.  there no other performance issues other software on machine.

 

i appreciate assistance - frankly, it's because find new 2012 process superior want try , make work -- otherwise i'd in 3.x now.

as update, tried lr 4.2rc -- while performance snappier in develop module, import not improved in slightest.
