Thread: cannot install build-essential
hello, today first day use ubuntu c++ programming. however, when trying install build-essential, failed. help?
this output shown:

problem using jaunty/9.04 has passed end-of-life , unsupported. it's obsolete version. repositories closed , can neither updates nor application packages installation. - in fact can old-releases repository, far better use supported version.
have installed jaunty? if so, suggest fresh installation 1 of supported versions. best 10.04 long-term support release, supported until april 2013 on desktop. or if try newer version, 10.10 released last october, or 11.04 last april. both of supported 18 months.
post if want download link isos. out of interest, why did install jaunty?
