Thread: mlabel - strange characters after renaming
hi all,
although not ubuntu user, hopefuly i'll find someoe give me hand.
experiencing problem mlabel command. works ok, after renaming usb key (for example) sandisk getting cli output:
[root@localhost ~]# mlabel -i /dev/sdb1 -s ::sandisk
volume label sandisk (abbr=sandis~1~À_)
[root@localhost ~]# sudo mlabel -i /dev/sdb1 -s ::
volume label sandiskoîÀ2
[root@localhost ~]#
of course name of usb key displayed incorrectly - strange characters behind.
locales set follows:
[root@localhost ~]# locale
lang=en_gb.utf8
lc_ctype="en_gb.utf8"
lc_numeric="en_gb.utf8"
lc_time="en_gb.utf8"
lc_collate="en_gb.utf8"
lc_monetary="en_gb.utf8"
lc_messages="en_gb.utf8"
lc_paper="en_gb.utf8"
lc_name="en_gb.utf8"
lc_address="en_gb.utf8"
lc_telephone="en_gb.utf8"
lc_measurement="en_gb.utf8"
lc_identification="en_gb.utf8"
lc_all=en_gb.utf8

image speaks volumes (it usb key icon on desktop):
system mandriva 2010.2, xfce, mtools version 4.0.13. grateful help.
thanks, ivan
hi again. answering myself (and in future having same problem , reading thread): solution fill in 11 characters in name (or adding spaces) , result required.
said 11 characters must used.
edit:
1 more detail if want use name less 11 characters: must in quotes , remaining missing characters must "spaced", e.g. sandisk use "sandisk+4xspace" gives 11 characters together.
this forum solving issue.
