Thread: remote mouse via lircmd
i'm trying set remote control mouse via lircmd, i'm not finding great documentation go along it.
first of all, believe lirc set correctly. i'm running mythbuntu 10.10, , when plug in usb remote receiver, drives mythtv fine. selection in mythbuntu control centre "windows media center transceivers/remotes (all)," , remote i'm using logitech harmony 550 emulating generic wmc remote. believe need mouse stuff working.
anyway, how determine whether or not have correct stuff installed or running? suspect it's installed (it make lot of sense, being mythbuntu , all), , there /etc/lirc/lircmd.conf, , there's man entry lircmd. these indicate me installed, , needs configured , called. there not device /dev/lircm, seems me it's not running. documentation provided says stuff needs added xf86config, can't find, this thread indicates either add similar xorg.conf (which can't find) or stuff in hal. not sure best approach, , not sure if else need done (i need running on every login).
, once figure out if it's running / how running, still need configured. there's example in /usr/share/doc/lirc, think can base configuration on. however, i'm not sure valid commands generic wmc remote. example uses stuff arrow_left , ok; if that's valid syntax remote i'm sure mouse movement , button press pretty straightforward, need make sure set mouse-mode toggle is: valid, won't needed else, , can assigned in harmony software. there list of valid commands wmc remote can use reference?
in advance y'all can give me.

hmmm...i appear have done something, it's hard tell what. opened full-screen terminal (ctl-alt-f1) , ranand placed xorg.conf.new in home directory. said likecode:sudo service gdm stop sudo xorg -configurewhich did, didn't seem start graphical anything; threw bunch of stuff in terminal, did sudo reboot next terminal , computer started fine, graphics , all. except after able delete xorg.conf.new in home directory while graphics still running (from graphical file manager, not using sudo rm) - mean wasn't being used? there better way generate xorg.conf current setup (that used automatically on login, can edit lircmd stuff), or need copy location?code:sudo x -configure xorg.conf.new
part of process made remote not work in mythtv, i'm not sure which. activity light on receiver flashes when gets signal, though, think stripped control assignments within mythtv somehow rather breaking lirc outright (the setup->edit keys doesn't show remote commands assigned functions anymore, except volume keys reason). if that's (i'll @ tomorrow) can reassign keys enough; seems odd.
