i can boot lubuntu usb "noacpi=off noapic nolapic" if set settings in usb menu. upon attempting boot installed version of lubuntu, hangs on black screen flashing underscore.

can grub no problem, however, when edit (non recovery mode), , place:

acpi=off
noapic
nolapic

return saying noapic , nolapic not exist, , cannot boot, goes black screen flashing underscore, attempts enter grub boot manager result in line being replaced (going memory on part)

ubuntu, can boot usb, , install, however, same problems persist upon booting hard-drive.

apologies if turns out simple fix, vista corrupted on laptop, i'm trying make useful installing linux , first time dabbling in

yeah no problem. need 2 things-- make change temporarily can boot, make change permanent. temporarily make change, need grub @ boot-time pressing esc or whatever (i'm assuming know how this). see list of boot options. press 'e' key on first one. use arrow keys navigate line begins "kernel" , press 'e' again. @ end of line, add parameters 1 after other, separated spaces. when you're done, hit 'enter' key, , 'b' key boot parameters. work, change exists boot.

make change permanent, need edit /etc/default/grub , add parameters grub_cmdline_linux_default="quiet splash" line (right after splash). save file, , run:

then should go.
