What's the trick to working with RED 4K?

this first 4k red project.  i'm 2 days it, , it's been extremely frustrating.

 

first, discovered clips play best in timeline  in native 4k sequence set 1/8 or 1/16 resolution.  if work @ lower resolution sequence, cpu usage increases or maxes out.  why scaling isn't handled gpu, don't know, because adobe claims that's benefit of cuda card (which have, , engaged).

 

editing extremely aggravating:

 

i hit play, , takes second before sequence plays.  other ops instananeous, should be.  playing , scrubbing timeline or program not.

 

after doing extract edit, cti jumps around timeline.  have wait second after each extract wait stop jumping.

 

there no real-time updating when scrubbing timeline or program window.

 

this odd, because scrubbing source fast! exciting!  smooth!

 

when scrub program or timeline, see maybe 1 out of every thousand frames, or maybe 1 out of every ten-thousand.  there no scaling, no effects; it's virtually same unprocessed footage player, yet scrubbing severely hobbled.  guess mpe.  make conclusion because scrubbing timeline in avid , fcp vastly superior experience, , source tab doesn't use mpe.

 

what we  need off-line mode turns off mpe.  feature request time.

 

add these aggravations standard pr aggravations such pr not playing half time when hit spacebar.  cti jumping around on own , not going home when hit home key, etc.

 

if i'm doing wrong, i'd appreciate tips.  googled pr red workflow, , followed advice found.  it's not helping.

 

 

macpro3,1 - 10.7.4 (tried running in 10.8.0 also; no improvement) - 32g ram - quadro 4000 latest drivers - 1.5 2 gb/s io atto r680 raid  pr 601

 

i have kona lhi, video playback through disabled, because slows pr down more.

this cti jumping around getting me down.  when drag cti given spot , hit play, cti jumps elsewhere, 6 seconds after put it.  have 4 times stay put it.  have hit spacebar 4 or 5 times before starts playing.

 

most other commands instantaneous:  lift, mark, etc.  play , go next or previous edit need invoked multiple times before happens.

 

i've deleted prefs, reinstalled app, tried different boot disk.  cuda on or off.  nothing helps.
