Best Wrapper/Format For Editing & Long-Term Storage/Archive?

hi all,

i working towards workflow shift , looking advice , feedback on proposed system.  first here basic information our pc-based edit system, our cameras/hd media types:

adobe cs5 (soon cs6, need installed)

windows 7 utlimate

hp z400 workstation upgraded 2 ssd drives

processors intel xeon w3450

16 gb of installed ram

sas connected avid raid sr

blackmagic multibridge eclipse

media types:

panasonic p2 mxf format (shot on pdx-170)

xdcam ex format (shot on jvc same format sony xdcam)

ikegami mxf format (shot on ikegami hds-v10)

as adobe designed do, editing in each of these formats natively, no issues.  concern arises in terms of long term storage/accessibility of mxf format, ikegami mxf.

we utilizing pro-cache, cache-a data tape system our long terms storage , archive needs.  had hoped utilize catdv catalog , archive based on categoricallyly sorted catalogs cache-a, alas @ time there no support read ikegami mxf files metaclips within catdv on pc based system allow proper archive through cachea.  makes entire catalog archive goal difficult achieve excluding greater 1/3 of our media library.

with inclusion of prelude in cs6, coming terms idea of transcoding of our media prior editing, despite ease of native editing, afraid mxf format become antiquated , not best format use, long term storage on data tape.  leaning towards starting tests version of h264 codec initial transcode.  ideally ot transcode 'final' format editing , archive.

can folks suggest favorite wrapper/formats allow smooth editing, limited quality loss maximum space efficiency, sense of 'security' of future ability read particular format? understand dvcprohd qt format on way out , sure avoid that, have concerns h264 in terms of editing given high compression of h264.

anyadvice, tips, resources or references might point me further education on such matters appreciated!  please respond questions or concerns or should of require clarification

now it's time bit of digging , start reading!

thanks!

lindsay
