i’m looking take leap , build own computer first time using top components. advice, tips, criticisms appreciated.
need know if list below work together. missing anything? have chosen not needed?
photographer , deal mass amounts of photos, videos, music etc. want play games occasionally, or watch dvd.
starting scratch, bringing no parts other places. new.

my suggestion build 2 separate pcs - 1 editing, other games. because (as harm millaard mentioned) games have absolutely no place @ whatsoever in editing system because many games install unnecessary , performance-degrading bloatware make ultra-fast system run slow or slower average six-year-old pc one-fourth ram.

 

but if can't afford (or don't have enough room for) second pc, you'll have make compromises. more important? editing/rendering/encoding performance or gaming performance?

 

with said, have bit of "penny wise, pound foolish" type of build. when motherboard , cpu combo expensive x79 , i7-3930k combos. p8z77-v deluxe costs $300 itself, , doesn't perform better (nor overclock higher) far cheaper ($150-ish) z77 motherboards. , 16gb of ram isn't quite enough total ram premiere pro cs6; need 24gb or 32gb cs6 run @ best. in fact, had tested cs6 on main i7-2600k system geforce gtx 560 ti 448 1.25gb of vram system equipped 16gb , again 24gb (the latter adding 2 4gb dimms existing 2 8gb dimms): adding 8gb of ram (making 24gb) improved mpeg-2 dvd performance in ppbm5 40 seconds. instead of 113 seconds 16gb, achieved result of 73 seconds 24gb.
