Thread: Brand new to Linux, Hardware probs HP notebook Pavilion DV 7

hello, can call me jay- have hp notebook pavilion dv7, in studio , laptop on heated, hard drive crashed , way knew start using laptop again install new operating system, lost everything, lost windows 7 too. don't know ubuntu, how ever i've tinkered in past.
here's problem,
have dual graphics card setup, ati graphics cards, in windows able switch power-saving gpu high powered gpu, installed ati driver linux provided me already, when open catalyst control center, encounter error, says
" p, li { white-space: pre-wrap; } no ati graphics driver installed, or ati driver not functioning properly.
please install ati driver appropriate ati hardware, or configure using aticonfig. "


please help!


also- have additional problems, want disable track-pad, because i'm using mouse , hands keep bumping buttons, 6th time i've typed this, , had restart. (yes i'm counting)- windows can touch pad on top left corner 3 times , goes red , disables pad. can't ubuntu.


problem-

i'm musician, music life, , windows- used pod farm program line 6 ux1 pod, worked perfectly, remember when had ubuntu before crash, attempted install pod farm via wine, interface worked... kind of., got no sound, how can use line 6 pod ux1 ubuntu.



enjoy using ubuntu (linux) dislike microsoft corp. if can't figure these problems out, i'm afraid have go out , waste money on copy of windows 7, because foolishly, had not made back-up disk when got laptop. live , learn, right?

i, more think understand situation, should post each problem seperately attention deserves.
track pad.....i don't know version this might work.
