Thread: mdadm questions

i have kubuntu natty, 2 software raid devices, /boot
on raid1 , / on raid0. system works while, then
fails boot , goes grub rescue. boot
live rescue cd check things out, , 1 thing notice
metadevice numbers may change - configured them
/dev/md2 , /dev/md3, 1 or both may show
/dev/md126 and/or/dev/md127 respectively.

-what can cause metadevice numbers change between boots, , how prevent this? because 1 or more of mdadm superblocks wrong?

-is there method 0 out mdadm superblocks on disks, recreate metadevices correctly, , rewrite mdadm superblocks, without destroying data on metadevices? think need live rescue cd, making sure metadevices stopped first, right?

-are mdadm superblocks on underlying sdx devices, mdx devices, or both?

i've found other posts describing similar problems, no solution giving me confidence preserve data, if has link correct procedure i'd appreciative

what have in /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf file? being incorrect root of mdadm problems.

code:
cat /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf
and what's output of
code:
cat /proc/mdstat

superblock info written each disk (or partition) depending on how set up. can view info examining disk, this
code:
mdadm -e /dev/sdb1
